The night we asked someone to go and be seen

Fifteen minutes into this call one member described symptoms that did not belong in a circle, and the rest of the hour happened differently as a result. I want to write it up carefully, because how it went is the thing I would want any other facilitator to copy, and because the room handled it better than I did.
What happened
She had come to ask about nausea. In describing it she mentioned pain that had been going through to her back since the previous evening, and vomiting she had not been able to break since the afternoon. She said it in the middle of a longer sentence, the way people do when they have already decided it is nothing.
I stopped the call. I said, in plain words, that what she had described is on the short list and that I wanted her to ring the out-of-hours service now rather than at the end of the hour. She argued, briefly and reasonably, that she did not want to waste anybody's time.
What the room did
Better than me. I had been firm and slightly clinical. Gwyneth said, simply, that she had had the same argument with herself in the autumn, had waited, and wished she had not. Three other people said versions of the same thing in about ninety seconds. She left the call to make the phone call. Two members stayed on the line with her while she waited, and one of them messaged me at eleven to say she had been admitted overnight.
She was discharged the following day. She came back to the circle a fortnight later, of her own accord, and asked to say the red-flag list at the start of the next call.
What I would change
I led with the rule and not with the person. It worked because the room supplied the warmth I had left out, and I should not rely on that. The other thing: we ran the remaining thirty minutes as a normal call, which was right, and I should have said so explicitly at the time rather than leaving the room wondering whether it was callous to carry on.
