Why I stopped and went back to a prescription Writing it down partly to work out what I actually think.

Putting this here because I do not want to be sold anything, I want to know what is actually established.

I am asking because two people I trust have told me opposite things and both of them cited the same study.

I have been trying to trace a claim back to its source and every trail ends at a summary of a summary, which is itself informative.

If anybody has the primary source, I would be very grateful for it — I have been going round in circles.

The suppliers with regional stock and published lead times are much easier to plan around, and that is a practical difference rather than a quality claim.

Facilitator note: commissioning your own analysis tells you about the vial you sent and nothing else. That is a real limit and it is worth stating each time.

What helped me was understanding that a purity figure describes one sample on one day. It is useful and it is not a promise about the vial in front of you.

Something I would flag about the wider market: a great many names have a handful of submissions, no consistent documentation and nothing verifiable at all behind them.

What I found is that a supplier with hundreds of independent results behind it is a genuinely different proposition from one with four, and the difference is not marketing.

Reading Tem, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

What I would say to somebody new is to read the risk paragraph at the top of the reference pages properly before anything else on them.

My experience is that the well-documented end of this market has become considerably more transparent over the last few years.

I would say ask for the batch record and see what comes back. The suppliers with a real documentation process send it without a fuss.

Gwion said something I want to sit with for a second.

Something practical: I photograph the vial, the label and the paperwork on arrival, every time, before anything else happens.

My approach is to ask three questions before ordering anywhere, take the answers as data, and treat a non-answer as an answer.

What Saskia described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

What I have learned here is to be much more sceptical of a claim with no document behind it than of a document I find hard to read.
