Facilitator — night circles
“The 3am circle exists because 3am exists.”
I am a theatre nurse's daughter, a former night-shift barista and a fairly poor sleeper, so the night circles found me rather than the other way round. Shift-workers meets at times that look wrong on a calendar and are exactly right if you finish at seven in the morning.
Shift work makes all of this harder in ways that are rarely acknowledged. Your injection day drifts. Your meals happen at 4am in a staff room. Fatigue is already your baseline so you cannot tell what the medication is doing. And every piece of advice you read assumes you eat dinner at seven and sleep at eleven. In circle we build round the actual week people have, not the week the leaflet imagined.
Under-30 is the circle I did not expect to end up holding. It has its own weather: more people paying out of pocket, more people who have never had a long-term prescription for anything, more social pressure, and a real strand of people who came to this from a difficult place with food and need that handled with care. Jonah and I compare notes often.
